Vistry and Latimer celebrate the handover of first affordable homes at River Gateway, Bristol

Vistry, the UK’s leading provider of mixed-tenure homes, is celebrating a major milestone with Latimer, the development arm of Clarion Housing Group, as the first block of 28 apartments is officially handed over at the River Gateway development in Bristol.

The completion of these properties provides the first new affordable homes at the landmark scheme, which is delivering a collection of contemporary one and two-bedroom apartments on the former Ashton Rail Yard site, off Paxton Drive in Ashton. The event at River Gateway brought together representatives from Vistry Bristol, Bristol City Council and Latimer to celebrate the partnership and the delivery of more affordable housing for the city. The project forms part of Latimer’s wider pipeline of affordable homes across Bristol, including 152 affordable homes at Bath Road that are due to be completed in 2027.

River Gateway is being delivered by Vistry under its Linden Homes brand. The development will provide 220 apartments across nine blocks, including 134 affordable homes. Of these, 62 will be available for social rent through Bristol City Council’s HomeChoice system. The affordable homes will be managed by Clarion Housing Group.

Shared ownership homes at River Gateway are due to launch for sale this summer, offering local people a more affordable route onto the property ladder in this part of Bristol. Those interested can register for updates ahead of homes going on sale via the Latimer website.

Private one and two-bedroom apartments are available to view online at Vistry’s Linden website, and prospective buyers can book an appointment to visit the Sales Centre for more information.

Susan Scholfield, Managing Director at Vistry Bristol, said: “The handover of the first homes to Clarion at River Gateway is an important moment for the development and for everyone involved in bringing this site forward. “River Gateway is transforming a prominent former rail yard into a vibrant new community, delivering much-needed affordable homes alongside high-quality private apartments in a wellconnected part of Bristol. It is fantastic to see the first residents move into their new homes.”

Richard Cook, Chief Development Officer at Clarion Housing Group, said: “The handover of these first homes at River Gateway is a really important moment, both for this development and for our partnership with Vistry. These are exactly the kind of good quality, affordable homes that people in Bristol need, and it's fantastic to see the first residents preparing to move in. We look forward to continuing to work closely with Vistry as the rest of the scheme comes forward.”
