Work set to start on 145 new affordable homes in Thorpe Willoughby
Vistry, the UK's leading specialist mixed-tenure housebuilder, is set to start work on a 145-home development in Thorpe Willoughby near Selby, North Yorkshire, following final planning approval for the scheme.
The development will comprise 72 homes for private sale through Vistry’s Linden Homes brand. In addition, 73 affordable homes - a mix of social rent and shared ownership - will be delivered in partnership with Yorkshire Housing, the largest housing association based solely in Yorkshire.
Whether it’s helping first-time buyers get a foot on the property ladder or providing high-quality affordable housing options for local families, these new homes will play an important role in meeting local housing need. The development will now move forward into delivery, supporting local housing need while bringing forward new public open space and community infrastructure.
In addition to providing much-needed affordable new homes in the area, the development will include extensive areas of public open space, landscaped green corridors and dedicated play facilities, helping to create an attractive environment for residents and the wider community. Existing boundary trees and hedgerows will be retained where possible and enhanced with new planting and biodiversity features throughout the site.
The development will offer a range of house types for a variety of residents, including first-time buyers, growing families and those looking to downsize. The affordable homes delivered for Yorkshire Housing will provide opportunities for local people to access high-quality homes in an established and well-connected location.
Located within easy reach of local amenities and transport links, the scheme will benefit from proximity to schools, healthcare facilities, shops and recreational spaces in Thorpe Willoughby and nearby Selby. The development has been carefully designed to integrate with the existing community while creating a strong sense of place for future residents.
Andrew Poyner, Regional Managing Director at Vistry West Yorkshire, said: "We are very pleased to be bringing forward plans for 145 high-quality new homes in Thorpe Willoughby, delivering a balanced mix of private and social housing to help meet local need. Through our partnership with Yorkshire Housing, more than half of the homes on the development will be affordable, helping more people access high-quality housing in a desirable location.”
Clare Harrigan, Executive Director of Growth and Assets at Yorkshire Housing, said: "A good home provides the foundation for so much in life. It can support better health and wellbeing, help people stay connected to their community, and create opportunities in work, education and family life. But for many people across North Yorkshire, finding a quality home at a price they can afford remains a real challenge.
“We're proud to be working with Vistry to deliver 73 social rent and shared ownership homes in Thorpe Willoughby. These homes will help more local people access an affordable place to live, giving them the stability and security they need to plan for the future.”
